Dawn Dance Weekend
- Staff
In addition to our fantastic regional talent we are delighted to have the following headliners:
KGB
No security clearances are required to enjoy
Seattle's KGB
. With fiddle, mandolin, guitar and piano, KGB creates subversive music, lulling the unwary with traditional New
England contradance tunes, then jumping off into Balkan modalities, tango riffs and bluesy jigs. Claude slides
from growling grooves to impossible high notes on the fiddle. Dave creates percussive energy and dazzling riffs
on anything with strings. Julie explores the emotional range of the keyboard from majestic to down and dirty.
Debbie
Jackson is a versatile pianist, singer and event organizer who has been playing regularly for contra and English
Country dancing for over 20 years. As a happy music collaborator, she enjoys composing new tunes, improvising
with chording and interpreting music to connect with dancers. She also plays in various swing, folk and couple
dance ensembles throughout the Midwest. Debbie has performed in Denmark, Austria, Turkey, France, Ukraine and the
Slovak Republic. Along with playing regularly with the band
Childgrove
, she is working on a solo piano project due for release in 2011.
Earl
Gaddis as a member of the legendary Bare Necessities and on his own, has been fiddling for a
mixture of English, Scottish, American and international dancing for more than 30 years. Earl grew up in the
Washington DC area, where he discovered (and soon started playing for) international dancing in 1962 while in
college. After moving to Boston in 1969 he began fiddling for New England square and contra dances, then playing
for English country and ritual dancing in the early '70's. He has continued to play for the same weekly English
dance ever since, even though it is now a five-hour trip because of his move to western Massachusetts a few years
ago.
Jeremy Korr
is a popular bicoastal caller, based in Southern California most of the year and in Eastern Massachusetts during
the summer. A second-generation dancer, Jeremy has been dancing his whole life, and has been calling contras and
squares around the country since 2003. Jeremy is acclaimed for his fun dances, efficient walkthroughs, precise
calling, and community spirit.
Joanna Reiner has taught English dance, Scottish dance and longsword for over a decade. Her calling has taken
her from Amherst to Ann Arbor, from NEFFA to NOMAD, including several sessions at Pinewoods Camp in Plymouth, MA.
Joanna led the Germantown Country Dancers English dance demonstration team for many years, is an avid dance
gypsy, and in her spare time, works to support her dance habit.
